Watching animals frolic around and play can easily put a smile on anyone’s face. Animals can be great sources of joy, companionship, and entertainment, which are just a few reasons why we love having pygmy goats on our farm here at Moose & Goose Winery.
In this article, we’d like to share a few fun facts about pygmy goats and tell you a bit more about why visitors find them so delightful when they visit our winery.
- They’re small but mighty. Pygmy goats are one of the smallest domesticated goat breeds in the world, typically weighing between 35 and 75 pounds. They only stand about 2 feet tall, but they’re incredibly hardy and resilient animals that can thrive in all types of climates and environments.
- They love to play. Pygmy goats are often recognized for their playful (and sometimes mischievous) nature, along with their relentless energy and curiosity. Typically, pygmy goats engage in social activities such as climbing, leaping, or head-butting other goats, providing endless entertainment for onlookers.
- They’re highly vocal. We mentioned above that pygmy goats are social, curious creatures, but this doesn’t just extend to their physical behavior. Pygmy goats are highly vocal, and you’ll hear a wide variety of bleats, calls, and yells from our adorable animals when you visit our farm.
- They provide natural weed control. Pygmy goats primarily eat hay, grass, and weeds, which can help people maintain beautiful landscapes and healthy pastures alike. If you dread having to mow the lawn, getting pygmy goats may be a unique solution for you to consider (if your neighbors allow it)!
